Andaman & Nicobar

95% of power generation in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands comes from diesel, with the remaining 5% from hydroelectricity. Fuel accounts for 80% of the cost of diesel-based power generation. There are 41 Diesel Power Houses at different locations in these islands having DG capacity ranging from 6 KW to 5000 KW (including 20 MW IPP) and one Hydro Power Station having 5.25 MW capacity at Kalpong.

A&N ED has completed vendor empanelment for 5 MW of solar rooftop capacity (1 MW residential, 2 MW commercial and government, 2 MW industrial). The overall installed capacity is currently 4.15 MW. The Government of India aims to reduce reliance on diesel and achieve 20 MW of installed solar rooftop capacity by the end of next year.*
